MEET APHNYS' NEWEST
(& YOUNGEST) MEMBER
& AN UPDATE ON OUR MOST
SENIOR MEMBER

Both Making an Impact on Local & NYS History!

APHNYS would like to introduce to you our newest member...Ryan Weitz, newly appointed Historian for the Village of Fultonville in Montgomery County!  Ryan is a sophomore in high school and has a passion for New York State and his community's history.  He is working with APHNYS Region 7 Coordinator Kelly Farquhar to learn more about his responsibilities as Village Historian, and looks forward to becoming an effective advocate for history in his community.

We wish Ryan the best of luck in all his endeavors as Fultonville Village Historian!

If you would like to Ryan a greeting, he can be reached at:  fultonvillehistory@gmail.com.

As we learned about our newest and youngest member, thoughts went to who holds the title of our most senior member, and a recent message to the State Office from Wayne County Historian Peter Evans might provide the answer...

Chester Peters, Historian for the Town of Williamson in Wayne County (Region 11)

"Chester has been an active town historian for more than 40 years…not the longest serving but I have to bet one of the most active and engaged historians in the state.

His work and the records he has assembled encompass cover the whole world. For years, Chester made yearly trips to Holland to document the strong Dutch connection to Wayne County and this region.

People come from all over the world to sit on his porch to listen. Every 4th grader and Hoffman Essay researcher has visited that same front porch for 50 years.

At 98, he still speaks regularly and writes for many publications.

Chester and his wife, Pearl, are role models for every student and adult in the region. They had 12 children, so I guess they know how to relate, organize and communicate."

Chester:  Keep going strong!

Are you more senior than Chester?
