APHNYS President Carol McKenna (2nd from left) and Host, Erie County Historian Doug Kohler (far right), greet New York State Senator Catharine Young (far left) and Erie County Executive Chris Collins.  Senator Young was presented with the Hugh Hastings Award honoring her for her work in promoting, preserving and stimulating interest in the history of New York State. 

APHNYS President Carol McKenna presents a commendation to Erie County Executive Chris Collins honoring the county for its historic preservation and education efforts.   

Conference attendees had the choice of many outstanding sessions.  Chautauqua County Historian Michelle Henry (seen here) and Panama Village Historian Pam Brown, presented a wonderful session on The New York and Erie Railroad and the Economic Impact of Emigrant Paupers in Chautauqua County.  

New York State's Office of Cultural Education was well represented at the conference to serve as a resource for Public Historians. Representatives from the New York State Museum, Library and Archives shared important information and answered questions.  Senior Librarian Vicki Weiss is seen here presenting Tricks of the Trade: Learning How to Use the New York State Library's Online Catalog ad Digital Collections Effectively to Tell Your Community's Story.    

Town of Queensbury Historian, Dr. Marilyn Van Dyke, conducted the Basic Orientation for Newly Appointed Historians.  Dr. Van Dyke (2nd from left) is seen here with some of the state's recently appointed Public Historians.  

The Newest Registered Historians!  Registered Historians Committee Member Bill Johnston (left) and Chair, Dr. Marilyn Van Dyke (right) congratulate two of the latest class of Registered Historians--Town of Skaneateles Historian Elizabeth Batlle (2nd from left) and Town of Vestal Historian Margaret Hadsell (2nd from right).  Town of Austerlitz Historian Sally Light has also received Registered Historian designation. 

Outgoing APHNYS Trustee Barbara Dix (left) was presented a Certificate of Commendation by APHNYS President Carol McKenna.  APHNYS also honored outgoing Trustees David Manclow, Emma Sedore and Trent Trulock.   

Town of Union Historian Suzanne Meredith (2nd from right) was presented with the Joseph F. Meany Award for Military History.  Suzanne was congratulated by New York State Historian Robert Weible (left), President Carol McKenna and 1st Vice President Gerry Smith (right).  2nd Vice President and Awards Committee Chair John Scherer is at the podium.  Village of Lynbrook Historian Arthur Mattson was also awarded the Joseph F. Meany Award for Maritime History.   

Village of Port Byron & Town of Mentz Historian Dawn Roe was awarded the Edmund J. Winslow Local Government Historian Award for Excellence. 

Civil War Historian, Author and Novelist David Cleutz (2nd from right) was honored by APHNYS with the Excellence in Promoting Local History Award.  David was congratulated by President McKenna, 1st Vice President Smith, State Historian Weible and 2nd Vice President Scherer.  The Warren County Historical Society and 17 Public Historians of Warren and Washington Counties were also honored with the Excellence in Promoting Local History Award for the recently-published history of Warren County.  

Following the conference, attendees were treated to a private tour of the Darwin D. Martin House complex, the most extensive residential complex Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed.  The estate is considered to be of extraordinary historical significance because it was designed not as a single residence but as a group of interrelated and connected buildings.
