Passing of two long time local historians

Monday, March 20, 2023 1:58 PM | Anonymous

Sorry to report that in a short period we have lost two stalwarts of our New York State local government historian community.

Wayne County Historian Peter Evans passed away on March 11. His obituary is at Obituary for Peter K. Evans | Young Funeral Home (youngfuneralhomeny.com). Peter served as an APHNYS trustee and as Region 11 Regional Coordinator and was a faithful attendee of our annual conferences. Our sympathies go to Sue-Jane and her entire family.

Dr. Marilyn VanDyke, former town of Queensbury Historian and a founding member of APHNYS, passed away on March 13. She was APHNYS second Vice President at its creation in 1999 and served on the board of trustees. She also was very active in APHNYS's predecessor organization, AMHNYS (Association of Municipal Historians of NYS). Here is her obituary. Our sympathies to her family: Marilyn VanDyke Obituary - South Glens Falls, NY | M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home- SGF

APHNYS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
